Clapham itself is divided into three areas: Clapham Common, Clapham Town and Thornton. It is probably most known for its 220 acres of seemingly endless green space, the common. It is also highly-recognised for its major train station, Clapham Junction which is actually in Battersea, the St John’s end of town. It is one of the busiest stations in Europe with trains regularly ploughing through from London Victoria and Waterloo to European shores.

Clapham History

Prior to the creation of the County of London in 1889, it was part of Surrey. After gentrification in the 1980s, Clapham changed from being an ordinary commuter town to a cosmopolitan, desirable place to live in. In 1900, it became part of the Metropolitan Borough of Wandsworth. Nowadays, it’s now one of the most popular places to live south of the river.
