Marmaduke Dando is a 29-year-old Portsmouth-born, London-based singer/songwriter, of pirate ancestry, and owner of one of the most hauntingly romantic, world-weary voices you are ever likely to hear - a welcome respite in an age of such unmitigated blandness, and particularly striking coming from one so young. His debut album, the curiously-titled Heathcliffian Surly and its lead single, the delightfully stirring Odessa, are starting to make significant waves within the music industry, an industry that, like modern society, desperately needs saving from its self-obssesed, overhyped and utterly tedious mediocrity.
