American Character Inspired by David Eustace Photographs

Tom Brokaw was inspired to explore the spirit of Americans by a series of photographs by David Eustace, whose photos of people along Highway 50 were published in the USA Network book American Character: A Photographic Journey. Tom Brokaw Takes Journey Across America

NBC News' Tom Brokaw traveled 3,000 miles across America, along transcontinental highway 50, a road called the backbone of America. Brokaw reports on the everyday people he met along the way, from Maryland to the California coast. As he traveled across the country, Brokaw has been broadcasting updates in 'Dispatches From the Road,' with short vignettes of people and places he visited along Highway 50. The dispatches were broadcast on USA Network, on the Today Show, on MSNBC and NBC Nightly News.

Tom Brokaw stated in a press release, "For me this documentary has been a journey of renewal and reassurance that the American spirit lives on. "From the determined fishermen in Chesapeake Bay to the ongoing search for the American dream in Sacramento, viewers will see the changing face of our nation.”
